A Promise to Pay is a commitment from your customer to pay specific invoices by a certain date. This helps you track payment expectations and manage cash flow more effectively.

Once created, you may need to remove invoices from an existing Promise to Pay or cancel it entirely if circumstances change.

How to Remove Invoices from an Active Promise to Pay

1. Open the Promise to Pay

Navigate to the customer's profile and locate the active Promise to Pay you want to edit.

Click on it to open the Edit Promise to Pay screen.

2. Remove Invoices

In the Invoices field, you'll see all invoices currently associated with this Promise to Pay.

  • Click the X button next to each invoice you want to remove

  • The invoice will be deselected and removed from the Promise to Pay

3. Save Your Changes

Once you've removed all the invoices you no longer want included:

  • Click the Save button to apply your changes

  • The Promise to Pay will be updated with the remaining invoices only

Canceling a Promise to Pay Entirely

If you need to cancel the entire Promise to Pay rather than just removing invoices:

  1. Remove all invoices from the Promise to Pay using Cancel promise to pay button

  2. Click Cancel promise to pay at the bottom of the screen

  3. Confirm the cancelation

  4. The Promise to Pay status will change to Cancelled

Background Processing

When you remove invoices from a Promise to Pay, the changes are processed by a background task. This means:

  • The update happens asynchronously and may not be instant

  • Invoices may still appear to have the Promise to Pay associated with them immediately after saving

  • This is normal behavior and not an error it can take a few mins for the promise to pay to be removed from the invoices
