What it does
Some systems that receive your notes have their own limit on how long a note can be. This setting holds that limit in Kolleno, so an oversized note is caught while it is being written rather than failing once it leaves.
Writing a note with a limit set
A counter appears below the note body showing how long the note is and what the limit is.
Go over the limit and the counter turns red, Save is grayed out, and a message says how far over you are.
Shorten the note and Save becomes available again. A note exactly on the limit is allowed.
What counts toward the limit
The count is the plain text of the note, not the formatting behind it. Making a word bold, or adding a link, does not use up any of the limit.
Layout does count, because it reaches the receiving system too. A blank line between paragraphs and the bullet or number in front of a list item each add a couple of characters, so a heavily formatted note counts slightly higher than its words alone.
Notes written before a limit was set
Existing notes are left alone. If a limit is introduced after a long note was written, that note can still be opened and other things about it changed, such as clearing a reminder. Only the note body has to fit.
Setting the limit
No limit is set by default, and with none set no counter appears and nothing is blocked. Speak to your Kolleno account manager with the limit you need.
