A net balance charge means you are charged a single amount that reflects:
Your unpaid invoices
Minus any available credits on your account
This helps prevent overcharging when you already have credits available.
What Is Included by Default
By default, Kolleno applies a standard net balance calculation when charging customers on net balance.
For full details on how the net balance is calculated, refer to this article:
βHow is the net balance calculated?
If your business requires different charging logic, you can request a customization through Kolleno Support.
Example:
If you owe $1,500 but have $450 in available credits, the system will charge $1,050 instead of the full amount.
This ensures you are only charged what is actually outstanding.
What You Can Request Support to Change
If this default behavior does not suit your billing process, you can request a change from support.
You can ask support to exclude any of the following types:
Object Type | What It Represents | Effect on Balance |
Prepayments | Advance payments made before invoices are issued | Subtracted (reduces charge) |
Overpayments | Payments that exceeded the invoice amount | Subtracted (reduces charge) |
Credit Notes Amount Remaining | Unapplied balance from credit notes | Subtracted (reduces charge) |
Journal Entries Amount Remaining | Unapplied balance from journal entries | Added (increases charge) |
Please also include the following code to perform this activity: net_balance_charge_object_types

These requests affect charges only and do not change your account balances or reporting.
